Background
Boehringer Ingelheim, founded in 1885, is the world’s largest privately owned pharmaceutical company.
Their animal health division previously had a platform built on an older legacy system that could not meet the strategic demands of the business.
Being a multinational organization, they required a scalable solution to support their international presence. Corra answered that call, and was ready to build a custom, state-of-the-art, and technologically advanced website for veterinary practices globally.

achieved:
Challenge
Keeping Animals in Every Country Happy and Healthy
Boehringer Ingelheim needed a global reference B2B storefront that could be iterated for use in select international markets. Each version needed to support complex interactions between accounts (accounts being veterinarian offices) and ordering procedures. These interactions include user administration statuses, ordering options and protocols, shipping details, and stock allocation.
The global reference build needed to be foundationally strong with an intuitive and adaptable user experience (UX) so that regardless what country the website was being customized for, it would offer the same high-level functionality everywhere.
Corra solved all the complexities of making an international, multi-site build that delivers heavily regulated products around the world. Key to this success was Corra’s recommendation to develop a headless architecture for Boehringer Ingelheim.

Introducing the new BI Connect and BI One Commerce, two B2B gateways that span the globe.
Solution
An Iterative and Dynamic Platform
Corra’s first initiative with Boehringer Ingelheim was building a B2B platform to handle both ecommerce and loyalty for the French and US markets.
Because France and the US have different regulatory processes as well as different currencies, Corra’s engineers made location-specific iterations of the site. The US version of the webshop is specifically able to navigate the complex prescription regulation procedures of the United States.
The French site is coded to process the system of French prescription regulations. To support Boehringer Ingelheim customers in France, Corra coded a single sign-on authentication process between the ecommerce and loyalty webshop and the French National Registry of Veterinarians.
Once the US and France were squared away, the team turned its attention to the remaining markets.

B2B Gateways offering one time purchases, as well as recurring bulk shipment options.
Solution
One Platform for Customers Around the World
The headless global reference build handles the rest of Boehringer Ingelheim’s selected international markets. Corra established a global reference build that is iterative and able to give customers the version of the site that best corresponds to their needs. All websites have the same Adobe Commerce platform, but each country’s website is an individual version customized by Corra engineers to be location specific.
Users now select and save their language preferences regardless of location, meaning a Korean American can access the site in Korean from Idaho, while an American expat living in Europe can access medicine for a client’s cat in English.
Since price is dependent on various factors such as product, location of purchase, and shipping locations the product pricing is a series of intricate dependencies creating a complex multi-variable interaction with the ERP system.
Corra proactively solved issues of country-specific user admin permissions with a custom implementation of Adobe Commerce’s B2B application enabling single users to purchase products for different veterinarian practices.
Boehringer Ingelheim now has two iterative platforms, one being a headless architecture, that are customizable and responsive to customers all over the world.

Offers complex administrative functionality where one user can admin multiple accounts.

Result
Corra’s work with Boehringer Ingelheim is a success on a global scale. Corra created two platforms, one of which is headless, that are localized to the specific customer, regulatory processes, and specific currency of that customer’s location. Boehringer Ingelheim has replaced their aging legacy platform with modern, headless commerce solutions to provide services internationally.
Boehringer Ingelheim also enrolled in TotalCare for ongoing support and managed services, allowing the working relationship to continue delivering top-end results from best practice methodology.
Adaptability is a crucial aspect of success. With this build, Corra proves that we know how to build websites that adapt to our client’s needs no matter where those needs might be located.
