Inside Magento 2.0 + ALCATEL

We recently announced the launch of ALCATEL on the brand new Magento 2.0. The improved performance and scalability of the platform, as well as a flexible architecture, appealed to this mobile technology client when expanding their digital business into the U.S. and Canada.

For more details on the exciting launch, Janese Quitugua, Senior Business Analyst at Corra, gives a peek into this Magento 2.0 project.

What features of Magento 2.0 really appealed to ALCATEL specifically?
ALCATEL was interested in the ability of Magento 2.0 to offer a quicker time to market. We were able to get through discovery, implementation and launch in only 10 weeks! The improved performance, checkout, and admin were also some of the main factors that helped this client choose Magento 2.0.

Improved site speed was another big motivation for ALCATEL. Load tests for the new sites show that they can support 1,000 concurrent users on Magento 2.0. This is much higher than version 1.14, which generally supports around 600.

ALCATEL is very excited about the migration from Amazon to Magento. They will now have much more flexibility and control over their front end, product data, and marketing tools.

How was the experience of being in the beta program on this project?
We collaborated closely with Magento’s Expert Consulting Group team to troubleshoot and roll out any needed code changes quickly. Overall, the experience was streamlined and efficient, and the collaboration was immensely helpful in meeting the aggressive 10-week timeline.

As an integrator & solutions partner, why are you excited about Magento 2.0?
I’m excited about the improved admin panel. It was a much-needed update that gives clients more user-friendly tools–they use these daily, so they’re very important. Also, the admin is touch screen enabled, so admins can now manage their store via a tablet device.

2.0 also offers a new approach to the Magento extension marketplace, Magento Connect. Vendors will now have to pass a code review by Magento before selling their extension. In the past, anyone could create and sell an extension, so it was hard to foresee issues that would come up in development. Magento Connect will help to ensure that all extensions recommended to clients are stable.
