If those statistics seem impressive, it’s because they are. Mobile has become an integral part of the shopping experience.
The Demandware Shopping Index analyzed the activity of 100 million online shoppers globally from its 1,100 retail clients during Q4 of 2014 and 2013. Included among its key findings are: a 61% lift in smartphones’ share of orders and a 40% lift in smartphones’ share of traffic, year over year. Tablets showed a steady but quieter growth, up 9% and 4% year over year. Furthermore, 21% of shoppers use multiple devices.
The main mobile takeaways from this index are that ( a ) shoppers move casually from device to device, (b) they are ready to buy from anywhere and on any device, and ( c ) they expect brands and retailers to shift with them and to provide a similar shopping experience regardless of device.
